Italy and the art of
coffee drinking - Gaggia coffee makers
Italy is famed for turning drinking coffee into an art
form and this is evidenced by the huge number of Gaggia coffee makers
on display in the bars and restanurants.
Although Gaggia is itself from Milan, you can find Gaggia
coffee makers all over Italy, including of course the capital, Rome.
Achille Gaggia invented and gained a patent for the method
of driving high pressure water over the coffee grounds in 1938. Using
it in his coffee bar, the resulting coffee had a distinctive crema on
top.
After the war Gaggia set up his company, producing high
quality machines for commercial use and it was not until the late 1970s
that Gaggia coffee makers and other accessories were available for home
use.
The art of producing good coffee is to have high quality
beans, good water and coffee maker able to control the temperature and
water pressure precisely. Gaggia does all that, which is why it remains
the King of all coffee makers.
